About Our Bishop
Bishop J. E. Watkins is the Pastor of Jack London Square Chapel sponsored by Watkins Memorial Insitutional Church, Church of God In Christ, International Inc. He is the great nephew of the late, Bishop C. H. Mason, Founder of the Church of God in Christ, International.
Bishop J. E. Watkins is the 2nd of 5 children born to Milton L. Watkins, Sr. and Katie V. Watkins. He is a native Californian, reared his early years in
Bishop Watkins, along with his brother, Bishop Milton Watkins began early in life as Business Owners, of African American descent…mentored by successful and affluent Business Owners of Jewish descent. Through their tutoring, Bishop Watkins gained a vast knowledge of professional business ethics, values, and protocol. He, with his brother owned and operated a multi-million dollar printing business (J&M Graphics) during the decade of the 70’s, with executive accounts from prestigious corporations such as, Bank of America, Standard Oil, Bechtel Corporation, Del Monte Foods, Jet Magazine, Ebony, and many others including a personally owned magazine called “Style 77” with Bishop J. E. Watkins as Editor-in-Chief.
Bishop Watkins is a member of several prominent Boards, including the Boy Scouts of America, Black Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Jazz Organ Musicians, and The Businessmen’s Fellowship, and is a member of several organizations, including the Oakland Ministerial Alliance.
God partnered Bishop Watkins in marriage to Pastor Letia N. Nichols. He is a father, Stepfather, Grandfather and was a mentoring Father/Scout Master for 18 years to over 1,800 boy scouts in Troop 69, headquartered at
Bishop J. E. Watkins is a 2nd generation Carpenter and 3rd generation licensed Plumber. He is a Licensed General Contractor and a retired Specialty Combination Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer for the City of
Through his college and professional education career, and in addition to attending many conferences for Business Owners, Bishop Watkins acquired several certifications in the Building Industry for residential and commercial dwellings. Presently, he is in progress to earn a Master of Divinity Degree.
Bishop Watkins is a professional musician with over 45 years experience playing lead guitar. He has performed in nearly every State in the
Bishop Watkins faithfully served with his brother in ministry over 35 years. During that time, he developed and honed skills, talents and gifts which are implemented in his ministry today. Bishop Watkins will host and produce a television show entitled “Trusting God” due to air early next Spring.
